Tires Shipped Free to Texas
Tires ship free to any street address in Texas, from El Paso to Beaumont and from the Panhandle to the Rio Grande Valley. Texas changed the rules recently: most passenger cars no longer get a state safety inspection, so keeping an eye on your own tread matters more than it used to. Here is what still applies, with sources, and how to get a new set mounted near you.

Inspection
Since January 1, 2025, non-commercial vehicles in Texas no longer need a safety inspection before registration (House Bill 3297). Owners pay a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee when they register instead. Commercial vehicles still need a passing safety inspection.

Emissions counties
Emissions testing still applies in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall and Tarrant counties around Dallas-Fort Worth; Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris and Montgomery around Houston; Travis and Williamson around Austin; and El Paso County, with Bexar County starting November 1, 2026. It is an emissions test, not a tire check.

State tire fee
Texas has no state fee on new tires. Its per-tire recycling fee program ended on December 31, 1997; tire shops now set their own charges for taking old tires.

Climate and tire choice
Which tire type for Texas
All-season down south, all-weather up north
Texas is too big for one answer. Along the Gulf and in the Valley, where January lows sit around 50°F, an all-season or touring tire fits the whole year. Heat is the bigger enemy there: check pressures in the morning before you drive, because a hot afternoon reading runs high and hides a slow leak.
In the Panhandle and North Texas, January lows near 20°F and arctic air channeled south by the Rockies make an all-weather tire with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol worth a look. It passes a severe-snow traction test yet stays on all year, which suits a place where winter comes in short, sharp spells rather than a long season.
Texas has hot summers and mild to cool winters. The Rocky Mountains channel arctic air south in winter, and the flat interior lets air masses move north and south easily.

January low temperatures typically run from about 20°F in the northern Panhandle to about 50°F near the mouth of the Rio Grande.

Shipping
How shipping to Texas works
Order online
Pick tires by vehicle or by size. Shipping is free to any street address in the 48 contiguous states and DC, with no order minimum.
Ships from a distributor
Your order ships from a distributor warehouse that stocks your size, so a set can come in more than one parcel.
Tracking by email
Once the carrier has a tracking number, we email it to you. You can also look the order up on Track Order.
Texas orders ship free to your home, your office or the shop that will mount them. Texas adds no state tire fee; taxes and fees are calculated at checkout. How shipping works
Mounting
Getting them mounted in Texas
With no annual inspection to catch worn tires, ask the mounting shop to measure the tread on the tires coming off and to check your spare. Any charge for taking the old set is the shop's own, since Texas has no state tire fee, so ask what it is when you call.
Any tire shop that mounts customer tires can do this; we don't recommend particular shops.
What to ask a shop
- Do you mount and balance tires a customer brings in?
- What do you charge per tire to mount, balance, replace valve stems or service TPMS sensors, and to take the old tires?
- Can you reset the tire-pressure warning light after the swap?
Bring the tires and your TireDrop order confirmation, so the shop can match the size, load index and speed rating on each sidewall to your order before anything is mounted. A mounted tire can't be returned.
Questions
Asked about Texas
Does Texas still inspect my tires?
Not for most passenger vehicles. Since January 1, 2025, non-commercial vehicles skip the safety inspection and pay a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee at registration instead. Commercial vehicles are still inspected.
Why is there no state tire fee on my Texas order?
Texas doesn't have one. Its per-tire recycling fee ended at the close of 1997, according to TCEQ. Shops may charge for taking old tires, and that charge is theirs. Taxes and fees are calculated at checkout.
I'm in Harris County. Is the emissions test a tire check?
No. Harris is one of the TCEQ emissions counties, and that test is about what comes out of the tailpipe. Tread and tire condition are between you and your shop now.
Do I need winter tires in Amarillo?
Texas doesn't require them. But with January lows near 20°F in the northern Panhandle and cold air that moves in fast, an all-weather tire with the mountain snowflake symbol is a sensible year-round pick there.
